Your generous donations will bring the unique war bride story to schools!
Words cannot express our appreciation…
A huge thank you to Adrian Arima and Monica Yeung Arima for funding the development of the curriculum and the more than seventy of you named below who responded to our May 2021 fundraising appeal! You made possible the package of educational material showcasing the history of Japanese war brides, produced by the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE). We are grateful to Gary Mukai, director of SPICE, for his keen interest, his guidance, and his hands-on approach that made this possible.
You can explore the offerings here.
Geared toward middle school grades and older, the materials are being offered as a free download to all educators. Assignments encourage students to draw on Kathryn’s extensive collection of oral histories with war brides and their families, at www.warbrideproject.com, and our 2015 short documentary film, Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight: The Japanese War Brides.
The material highlights Japanese brides for the first time in the teaching of American immigration history.
We would like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors; those who donated to honor individual war brides; and all other contributors. We have awarded you flower names!
And to those of you without a Japanese war bride in the family, our deepest gratitude for your special support.
